Avocet and Heron
Welcome to another exciting year at Shiphay! This year is a big transition for the children as they move from Lower School to Middle School and we are sure you’ll go above and beyond to support your child to reach for the stars in their learning. We are pleased to inform you that the children have already made a great start to the year and we are confident this will continue.
In Year 2, we like to encourage the children to be independent learners who are confident to give new challenges a go and show how super they are at using our Core Values and Sparkling Learning Powers. We expect the children to learn their 2, 3, 5, & 10 times tables by heart. There are lots of great games on the ‘Topmarks' website to make this learning interactive and fun- most of it is tablet friendly too! Homework is set fortnightly and will always be due in on a Wednesday. This usually consists of a Reading, Writing and a Maths task. Alongside this, in the coming weeks we will be sending home Spellings on a weekly basis and children will need to learn these to support and encourage their independence when writing.
Reading is a vital and lifelong tool for children, as your child continues along their reading journey you can support them in many ways. You will find some ideas on the insert in the front of their reading record. It would be super if you could read with your child for fifteen minutes each day and record any notes about how they have read in their reading record. Whether you read to your child, they read to you or you just explore the pictures, this all helps.
Year 2 have PE every Monday and Friday afternoon. Please make sure your child has their PE kit on these days and as the colder months roll in please make sure this includes some tracksuit bottoms or leggings .
We will use our class pages to communicate information to you throughout this academic year. The class pages will be updated, via the tabs below, with key information, photographs and examples of work. We look forward to working alongside you and your child.
