Avocet and Heron
In Year 2, we like to encourage the children to be independent learners who are confident to give new challenges a go and show how super they are at using our Core Values. We will share the learning that we have been doing regularly on SeeSaw and any activities that you can do at home to support your child's learning. As part of the children's home learning, we will also be accessing online platforms including 'Numbots'. This is a fantastic resource for supporting your child in develop their fluency and skills as mathematicians. They will also be continuing to access 'Bug Club' reading resources both in school and at home.
Reading is a vital and lifelong tool for children, as your child continues along their reading journey you can support them in many ways. You will find some ideas on the insert in the front of their reading record. It would be super if you could read with your child for fifteen minutes each day and record any notes about how they have read in their reading record. Whether you read to your child, they read to you or you just explore the pictures, this all helps. In Year 2, we encourage the children to read shorter books three times to develop understanding, word recognition and confidence. They have the opportunity to read, share and change their books each day so please sign your child's reading record when they are ready for a new book.
