After graduating from the University of Bath in 2014 with a degree in Early Years Education, I was drawn to come and live back in my hometown by the sea! I joined the Shiphay team in January 2017 and have been lucky enough to continue my Early Years career as the Manager of the Orchard Nursery. Prior to my time at Shiphay, I worked in a range of private nurseries in Torbay where I was fortunate to work with children aged 3 months to 4 years old.
I took some time out of work to travel around Indonesia and Australia where I became a certified scuba diver and explored many different cultures. When not in school, I spend a lot of my time outdoors and enjoy paddle boarding around the Torbay coastline.
In the Nursery, I value each child’s individuality and aim to provide a nurturing and creative learning environment where children have opportunities to be inquisitive and explore the world around them. I have a passion for promoting learning through playful and meaningful experiences, celebrating each child’s ideas and originality. I believe in giving each child opportunities to excel and feel a sense of pride and achievement in all they do.
I place lots of importance on using exploration and outdoor learning to provide challenging and engaging experiences. I feel it is important for children to take an element of ownership of their learning and extend learning opportunities through their interests. In the Nursery, I believe in taking careful consideration of each child’s personal and social development, including their communication and language skills, and encourage the development of this through carefully considered collaborative activities.
Since a young age I've always wanted to work with children in a school environment. I started working as a teaching assistant at Shiphay in 2011, after gaining my level 3 qualification in Childcare and Education. I have spent the majority of my years here working in the Nursery, which I thoroughly enjoy.
Outside of school I enjoy being outdoors, and through my love of travel have been fortunate enough to visit lots of beautiful places around the world.
I have been working at Shiphay Learning Academy for fifteen years and I’m very happy to be part of the Lower School Team.
In my spare time I like to read and do jigsaw puzzles, as well as go for lovely walks in the country side and on the moors. I love spending time with my gorgeous Grandchildren too. I’m very lucky to have another Grandchild on the way!
Since I was very young, I have always loved caring for children and when my own children were young, I volunteered in school and also spent many years as a "dinner lady". In 2000, the opportunity came up for me to be a Teaching Assistant and I grabbed it with both hands and have been here ever since. I began my initial years in Upper and Middle School before joining the Inclusion team in 2010. I enjoy the variation of things that I get to do, including speech therapy and working with children with Special Educational needs and Disabilities.
I love my job very much and feel lucky and honoured to hold my post.
The majority of my working career has been focused on caring for children, supporting their development and assisting their learning, I find it a rewarding role. I took some time away from work to raise my two young children and now that they are both settled in school themselves, I have taken the opportunity to rejoin the schooling environment myself.
I joined the Shiphay Learning Academy team in January 2020 and I am thoroughly enjoying working in Nursery and Reception.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, going for bike rides, camping and eating out.
