Welcome to Year 4
Welcome to another exciting year at Shiphay Learning Academy! This year is a big transition for the children as they become the oldest pupils in the MST team. This means that we rely on them to undertake additional responsibilities and to act as positive role models for their peers in Y2 and Y3.
In Key Stage Two we like to encourage the children to continue to grow in confidence and independence. Children in Y4 are expected to read daily and practise their spelling skills daily. Also, by the end of Year 4 it is a National Curriculum Expectation that pupils have fluent recall of their multiplication tables to 12x12.
Spelling words will be set weekly, in their home learning books, so they can apply them in their writing.
All types of reading is beneficial to your child; whether you are listening to their reading book, library book, sharing a book or reading to them. Try to read with your child for at least 20-30 minutes every day. Reading records will be sent home daily, please sign their reading records and add any comments about how your child has read.
Year Four will have PE lessons every Wednesday and Thursday. Please make sure your child has their PE kit on this days. PE kits can be left in school for the half term.
We will use our class page to communicate information to you over the course of this academic year. The class page will be updated, via the tabs below, with key information, photographs and examples of work. We look forward to a happy and productive relationship with you over the coming year.
