Year 4

Skylark and Woodpecker

Welcome to another exciting year at Shiphay Learning Academy! We hope you have had a fantastic return to school and are now ready to start an exciting year ahead. This year is a big transition for the children as they become the oldest pupils in the MST team.  This means that we rely on them to undertake additional responsibilities and to act as positive role models for their peers in Y2 and Y3.  In Key Stage Two we like to encourage the children to continue to grow in confidence and independence. We would also like to take this opportunity to outline the set routines and tell you any important information you need to know about Year 4.

Home Reading: Each child will be issued with a Home Reading Book and their reading range. All children should be reading every day for at least 30 minutes. Please encourage your child to continue to read aloud to you as this helps to develop fluency. Once the children have read their book they will then undertake a comprehension quiz on Accelerated Reader. Children can quiz on any day of the week.

Times Tables Facts: It is very important that your child can quickly recall their times tables facts to 12x12. All Year 4 pupils have to complete a National Multiplication Facts Test in June. The children are signed up to Timestable Rockstars and can access this from any device at home. Once again please encourage your child to practise their times tables at home. You can also find useful links in our Maths section.

Physical Education:  PE is on a Tuesday and Thursday this term. Children must ensure their PE kit is in school.

A standard PE kit should be;

- Red t-shirt or polo shirt

- Black or navy shorts/ jogging or tracksuit bottoms

- Black plimsolls/ trainers

 All hair should be tied back and stud earrings will be covered if not removed on or PE day.

We will use our class page to communicate information to you over the course of this academic year. The class page will be updated, via the tabs below, with key information, photographs and examples of work. We look forward to a happy and productive relationship with you over the coming year.
