The Teaching Team

Mrs Emma Lee - Avocet

I have been teaching at Shiphay since I qualified in 2005.  In the 20 years I have been at the school, I have enjoyed teaching in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.  I am very much looking forward to moving into Year 3 and focusing on the next stage of the children’s learning journey.  I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work across the whole of KS1 and to see how children develop throughout this time and I am now looking forward to a new challenge.

In my classroom, I strive to provide a learning environment where children feel valued, inspired to learn and motivated to reach their fullest potential.  We celebrate everyone’s efforts and achievements and we love to share our successes.  It is always wonderful to see those ‘light bulb moments’ that occur when the learning all falls into place!

I believe that exploration and hands-on experiences are a vital part of learning and it is always great to see how the children’s creativity shines through when provided with these opportunities.  I love teaching all areas of the curriculum but have always had a keen interest in History, English, Drama and Maths.  I love children’s books and thoroughly enjoy that special time each day where we share our class text together and as a mum this has always been a highlight of my day too!   I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work with your children next year and I look forward to meeting you all.

Miss Lucy Newell -  Heron

I started my teaching career at Shiphay Learning Academy, as a Year 3 class teacher in January 2021 and was lucky enough to teach in Year 3 for two years. I loved working alongside adults that share the same passion as me - positively developing children’s personal and academic skills. After these two years, I decided to move abroad to teach in Dubai and I taught at a British Overseas School in Year 5. Since living and teaching abroad, I developed a keen interest in pupil well-being and in enhancing a positive mindset for children to thrive. After leaving Dubai, I was welcomed back to Shiphay as a Year 3 class teacher alongside taking on the role of Assistant SENDCO at Roselands Primary School. During this time, I also taught in a Year 1/2 class and have enjoyed teaching and learning the KS1 curriculum. I am excited to come back to Shiphay Learning Academy next year and continue my teaching career in Year 3.

Inside the classroom, I enjoy working alongside the children to learn together and collaboratively create inspiring pieces of work. You will often find me singing along to a range of different songs to help the children learn everything from times tables to the names of the continents! My classroom is a safe space where children can express themselves and aspire to reach for their version of excellence. I believe in creating a stimulating, friendly and calm environment for children to learn and evolve in.

I love teaching all areas of the curriculum equally and enjoy getting stuck in with a ‘hands-on’ approach; creating practical activities for the children to cement their knowledge with. Our classroom will be an exciting and joyful place where the children will feel comfortable and proud of themselves. I cannot wait for a year filled with wonderful, positive learning experiences and getting to know all of the children's different personalities.
