Home Learning

Welcome to the Home Learning Page

In Year 4, home learning supports children to practise and consolidate the skills they have learnt in school; it also serves as preparation for the transition to Upper School and beyond, encouraging them to develop the vital life skills of personal organisation and time management. Alongside daily reading and times table practice, each week via the Year 4 Weekly SeaSaw update, the class teacher will suggest ways in which you can support your child. The suggestions allow children to consolidate and re-enforce what has been learnt in a lesson or may include investigation work linked to a topic. Most importantly, the suggested activities give children the valuable opportunity to share their learning with you. All the suggested activities have clear learning intentions and provide opportunities for children to succeed and progress.

Subject Activity Time
Maths Daily mental maths practice or Times Tables Rock Stars

10 minutes daily

Reading Daily Reading for Pleasure (including Accelerated ReaderBug Club, and Rockerbox News)20 minutes daily

According to research, pupils who read at least 35 minutes a day with a 90% comprehension rate on Accelerated Reader quizzes see the greatest gains. Therefore, pupils should have at least 35 minutes set aside for reading during each day. Although pupils have the opportunity to read in school each day, they should also be reading and discussing their reading for a minimum of 20 minutes a day at home.
